Today is a day to celebrate alright. It’s all about breaking down barriers. Each year on May 7th, we have an opportunity to acknowledge this and do something to help those who need our help. People with disabilities.
This day was started back in 1986 by President Ronald Regan.
You may be asking yourself, What can I do? You can help by taking action and penning a letter to your congressperson about this topic.
Today, there are over 36 million Americans that suffer from a disability that keeps them from being able to do things many take for granted. This post is not to make people feel bad. Please don’t think that’s where I am going with this. I’m doing my part by standing up and writing this post to empower you–so please, don’t be upset, be inspired.
President Ronald Reagan issued proclamation 5472 and called for Americans to recognize the day with events and programs that would contribute to removing the obstacles facing those with disabilities.
Most people have some sort of “something” that they deal with. It may not be something physical it can also be mental. I believe the world we live in can get really fast at times and I would love for it to slow down so I can gather my thoughts and just breathe. Maybe that’s my disability–it’s my “Something.” I’d like to personally say “Thank You” to those who read this for allowing me to share this.
I’d also like to invite you to share yours.
It’s ok. We are in a safe place here. Please always know this is definitely a safe place.
